There are days when all I want to do is have a fun day with my daughter, but being a working mom I'm lucky to get the two days off on the weekend to accomplish what many get accomplished in a week! With both myself and my husband working full time our house gets completely neglected during the week. With dishes to wash and laundry to clean, dry, fold and put away, there is no time for fun! Well, of course there is!
If you've got a day of errands to run and dishes to wash, you can still make it a Mommy and Me day that is fun. This week for instance, I had so many things to get done there was no time for the "typical" Mommy and Me Day. I always feel like my daughter needs to be entertained or that we should do something fun. But my daughter has fun just being by my side, no matter what we are doing. So make your everyday errands a fun time together.
- If you are doing dishes, let them help you wash them or dry them. If they aren't old enough to do that, let them be the soap squeezer!
- At the grocery store they can be the list holder. It makes them feel like they are an important part of the grocery store trip. They can help you by putting the groceries in the cart, or play I-Spy to help them find the box of crackers you want to put in the cart. (We always pick out the carts that look like cars too!) Believe it or not grocery stores can be fun!
- When we have to go to Sam's Club or Home Depot we always test the yard furniture out and pretend we are basking in the sun or grilling out burgers on the grills. A little imagination goes along way!
- Laundry is an endless project at my house. My daughter just enjoys being the Hanger Lady. I request the type of Hanger I need and pay her for it. Then she gives me the hanger so I can hang up the clothes. It makes doing laundry a fun game instead of a chore.
